St Kitts, as the
earliest British settlement in the Caribbean, is steeped in history and
dotted with ancient fortresses from whose battlements wonderful views of
the light green Caribbean and neighbouring islands can be experienced.
There is only one road round the entire island so the chances of getting
lost are remote.
As one of the few Caribbean islands on which sugar is still grown, the
sugar cane fields are a familiar sight throughout the island
Most of the hotels are restored 18th century 'Great Houses,' formerly
the homes of the early owners of the sugar plantations on the island
Ottleys
Plantation
Ottleys Plantation Inn stands in 35 acres of grounds on a hillside
with a lush background of tropical forest. There are 24 comfortable
rooms with 4 stone cottages nearby. The hotel's restaurant, the gourmet
Royal Palm has become the leading center for fine food on the island and
should not be missed whether resident at the hotel or not. To go to the

Rawlins
Plantation
This very popular small hotel is situated in the 'quiet' north of the
island with views of the Dutch island of Statia and French St Barths.
The cordon bleu cuisine of the owner/chef, Claire Rawson is much
acclaimed long after the vacation is over. Accommodation is in 10
individually decorated rooms in cottages scattered throughout the lush
gardens (the honeymoon suite is in a 17th century converted sugar mill).
