Caribbean History

The Caribbean covers an area of more than a million square miles and its islands range from Grand Bahama off the coast of Florida in the north to Trinidad off the coast of South America in the south. Some of these are lush and tropical while others are flat and dry. Some are virtually deserted while others are busy, thriving resorts.

The islands have a rich and colourful history having seen many battles fought between the English, French, Dutch and Spanish for supremacy and the huge sugar cane plantations they developed were worked by African slaves. Consequently this unique history has led to the area becoming the melting-pot of cultures and nationalities that it is today.

Today visitors flock to the Caribbean to relax and to sightsee. The area enjoys year-round sunshine, beaches with fine, white sand and crystal clear water, and the most beautiful scenery. It's no surprise that many visitors return to the Caribbean year after year.
